FOSS Planetary Science, 2nd Edition
Grades 6 - 8
The revised FOSS Planetary Science course draws from the original course's rich, active-learning
investigations to develop a historical sense of humankind's exploration of the cosmos, then
delves in far greater depth into the modern questions surrounding space exploration. The study of the relationship between Earth, Sun, and the Moon is expanded so that students
develop a more thorough understanding of the local cosmos, including the organization of the
solar system and the reason for the seasons. Instructionally, the course has been enhanced by the addition of embedded notebooking
techniques, recommended homework assignments, and greater support for in-class readings
and multimedia activities. FOSS Components Program Features Course Investigations May 3, 2012 Dear FOSS Educator: We recently discovered a defect in the FOSS® orrery included in the FOSS® Planetary Science, Second Edition © 2012 kit. The circuit design used in the orrery is causing the LED to fail. The orrery is used in Part 2 of Investigation 10: Orbits and New Worlds wherestudents investigate techniques that scientists use to find and study planets orbiting other stars. Students use the orrery and a light sensor to generate transit graphs and analyze them to draw conclusions about exoplanets. We very much appreciate your business and apologize for any inconvenience. Delta Education will send you a replacement orrery under separate cover within 4–6 weeks. You can keep the original orrery or return it to Delta customer service.
