How FOSS Works: Reading
FOSS Science Stories
Equipped with first-hand experiences with new science content and processes, students enhance their knowledge and understanding through reading in their FOSS Science Stories books. Content-area reading has been found to be more effective when a meaningful context for the information has already been established. The books provide scientific explanations and real-world applications of the students’ classroom experiences. A variety of grade-appropriate writing styles are used and articles are enhanced by full-color photos and illustrations.
FOSS Science Stories also create opportunities for parents and families to participate in the hands-on science experience at home. Suggestions for doing so are offered in the NYC FOSS at Home Supplement, available in English and Spanish for grades K-6.
